PS Plus Premium August 2026 Game Confirmed Early For PS5 And PS4

Sony has already confirmed one PlayStation Plus Premium August 2026 game, with Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams set to join the Classics Catalog this month for PS5 and PS4 players.

The Capcom PS2 action RPG was named during Sony’s June State of Play, where PlayStation revealed several upcoming Plus additions for Premium members. The announcement means subscribers already know at least one classic game arriving before the full August Extra and Premium lineup is officially detailed.

Read on for more and don’t forget to check your regional PlayStation Store when the update goes live, since PlayStation Plus availability can vary by region.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams Joins PS Plus Premium This Month

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is the confirmed PlayStation Plus Premium classic for August 2026.

The game was part of a three-month Classics Catalog reveal that also included Gitaroo Man for June and Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy for July. For August, the focus shifts to Capcom’s demon-slaying action RPG, giving longtime fans another reason to revisit the Onimusha series before Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on PS5.

That timing is not accidental.

Sony also used its June State of Play to highlight Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which is scheduled to launch on PS5 on September 25, 2026. Bringing Dawn of Dreams to PlayStation Plus Premium in August gives players a chance to catch up on an older entry before the franchise returns with a new installment.

When Will Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams Arrive?

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is expected to join PS Plus Premium on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, alongside the next batch of Extra and Premium catalog additions.

Sony has not yet published the full PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium August 2026 lineup as of this writing. The complete list is expected to be announced before the catalog refresh, which should clarify the full release schedule and any regional differences.

There is one detail worth watching.

Sony has been testing a staggered PlayStation Plus catalog release schedule in select regions, including the US, UK and Japan. That means some Game Catalog drops may not arrive on the same day everywhere. However, Premium classics have typically been more consistent, so players should still check the PlayStation Store directly on release day.

What Is PlayStation Plus Premium?

PlayStation Plus Premium is the highest tier of Sony’s subscription service.

It includes the core PlayStation Plus benefits, the Game Catalog, the Classics Catalog, cloud streaming in supported regions and time-limited game trials. That makes it the only tier that includes access to classic PlayStation titles through the Classics Catalog.

For August, all PlayStation Plus members already have access to the monthly games lineup: Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, Big Walk and Signalis. Those games are separate from the Extra and Premium Game Catalog update.

That distinction matters. Monthly games are available across all PS Plus tiers, while Classics Catalog additions like Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams are for Premium members.

Why This Update Matters For Onimusha Fans

The Onimusha series has been quiet for years, but 2026 is turning into a major comeback year for the franchise.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams gives Premium subscribers a way to revisit the PS2 era of the series, while Onimusha: Way of the Sword brings the franchise forward on PS5 next month. For players who missed Dawn of Dreams when it first launched, the Classics Catalog release lowers the barrier to trying it.

It also gives PlayStation Plus Premium a recognizable classic in August at a time when subscribers are waiting for the full Extra and Premium lineup.

The one concern is volume. Premium subscribers often watch the Classics Catalog closely because Sony has been adding a small number of classics each month. If Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams ends up being the only classic for August, some players may still want more from the highest PS Plus tier.

Full August PS Plus Lineup Still Pending

Sony has already announced the August monthly games for all PlayStation Plus members, but the full Extra and Premium catalog lineup remains the bigger question.

The confirmed monthly games are available from August 4 to August 31. These include Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition for PS5 and PS4, Big Walk for PS5 and Signalis for PS4.

PlayStation Plus members can also claim the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls PlayStation Plus Pack starting August 6. The pack includes avatars and in-game Result Screen Character Poses, and it will be available until August 6, 2027.

For Premium members, though, the main August classic is already clear: Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is coming to the Classics Catalog.

As of this writing, Sony has yet to reveal the full PS Plus Extra and Premium August 2026 lineup.
