Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, giving its smartwatch lineup new AI-powered health tools, larger batteries and more specialized sports tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch9 starts at $379, while the rugged Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is priced at $699. Both watches are available for preorder, with general availability beginning Aug. 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The biggest difference between the two models is their intended user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch9 is designed for everyday health, sleep and fitness monitoring. The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is aimed at runners, outdoor athletes and divers who need longer battery life and greater durability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung is giving both watches several new health features designed to turn sensor readings into information users can understand and act on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vitals monitors measurements collected during sleep, including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen levels. It uses those readings to create a personal baseline and can alert users when something changes significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heart Health Score combines activity, sleep, stress and body composition data into one measurement intended to provide a simpler overview of cardiovascular wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fitness Index examines workout history and body composition to help users determine whether their current exercise routine matches their fitness level. Daily Cardio Load then considers exercise intensity and recovery needs to help users avoid doing too much or too little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung is also updating sleep apnea monitoring. The feature uses an AI algorithm to examine breathing disruptions during sleep and categorize the results into different levels. However, Samsung says it should not be treated as a replacement for a medical diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 introduces Samsung\u2019s most significant move into specialized sports tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The watch can automatically begin recording dive information when the user enters the water. It tracks depth, dive duration and water temperature directly from the wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung has also worked with diving equipment company Mares on the Ultra2 Diving app. When released later this year, the app will add information such as ascent and descent speeds, nitrogen levels and safe dive limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those advanced features will require a separate Mares subscription, which costs $8.99 per month or $69.99 per year. The watch is designed for recreational diving at depths of less than 40 meters rather than deep-sea or technical diving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ultra2 carries EN13319 certification for diving instruments, along with 10ATM water resistance and an IP69K rating against dust and high-pressure water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That puts Samsung in more direct competition with the Apple Watch Ultra and dedicated outdoor watches from brands such as Garmin and Suunto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 with an 800mAh battery, a 35% increase over the previous Galaxy Watch Ultra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung says the watch can last up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled. Battery life will still depend on GPS use, workout tracking, mobile connectivity and other settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ultra2 also has a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display that can reach 5,000 nits of localized peak brightness. That should make maps, workout measurements and notifications easier to read under direct sunlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the larger battery, the watch is 12% thinner than the previous model. Samsung also reduced the weight of its redesigned band by 26% to make the 47mm watch more comfortable during long workouts and overnight health tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new Trail Run mode provides elevation information, climbing progress and cumulative ascent and descent measurements. Nutrition Alert can also estimate sweat loss and suggest how much water the user should drink during supported activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch9 is the smaller and more practical option for users who do not need the Ultra2\u2019s rugged construction or diving features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes. The 40mm model has a 1.34-inch display and a 390mAh battery, while the 44mm version has a 1.47-inch display and a 445mAh battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both models use aluminum cases and have displays capable of reaching up to 3,000 nits. Samsung says they can provide up to 30 hours of use with the always-on display enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Watch9 is also thinner and designed to sit closer to the wrist. That matters because health measurements become less useful when a watch is uncomfortable and users remove it while sleeping or throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung is supporting the watches with new silicone and fabric bands designed for workouts, everyday wear and sleep tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Samsung has moved away from its previous Exynos smartwatch processor and is using Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform in both models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new chip is designed to improve performance, efficiency, GPS accuracy and on-device AI processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both watches include 2GB of memory. The Galaxy Watch9 provides 32GB of storage, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 doubles that to 64GB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They run Wear OS 7 with Samsung\u2019s One UI 9 Watch interface and support LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, dual-frequency GPS and Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 comes in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 40mm Galaxy Watch9 is available in Graphite and Cream, while the 44mm model comes in Graphite and Silver. Color availability may vary between markets, carriers and retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preorders opened July 22, with both watches scheduled to go on sale Aug. 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Galaxy Watch9 appears to be the better choice for everyday health tracking, while the Ultra2 is Samsung\u2019s option for users who need longer battery life, a brighter display and more advanced outdoor features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For most buyers, the new AI health measurements may be more important than the processor or design changes. Their real value, however, will depend on how accurate the recommendations are and whether users continue wearing the watches long enough to build a reliable health baseline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
