{"id":221,"date":"2026-08-04T01:42:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T01:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sebertech.com\/news\/?p=221"},"modified":"2026-08-04T01:42:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T01:42:15","slug":"kingston-urges-gcc-businesses-to-plan-storage-upgrades-around-workloads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sebertech.com\/news\/2026\/08\/04\/kingston-urges-gcc-businesses-to-plan-storage-upgrades-around-workloads\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingston Urges GCC Businesses To Plan Storage Upgrades Around Workloads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston Technology is urging businesses across the Gulf Cooperation Council to base memory and storage upgrades on the workloads placing the most pressure on their systems rather than replacing entire IT environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company said expanding use of edge computing, artificial intelligence, cloud platforms and data-intensive applications is changing what organizations require from enterprise infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of choosing storage based mainly on capacity or advertised speed, Kingston recommends reviewing how data is created, accessed and written across existing systems before deciding where upgrades are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That approach could help businesses improve performance without paying for a full infrastructure replacement when only certain applications or systems are causing problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Edge Computing Is Putting More Pressure On Storage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditional storage environments were often designed around data processed inside centralized offices or data centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edge computing changes that model by processing more information closer to the devices, branches, factories, stores or other locations where the data is generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can reduce delays and support real-time applications, but it also creates new demands for storage performance and reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI processing, analytics, virtualization and other data-heavy workloads may require infrastructure capable of maintaining predictable performance, handling frequent write activity and remaining continuously available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston said these requirements are becoming more important as organizations across the region deploy more connected systems and AI-enabled applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Businesses May Not Need To Replace Everything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston said companies should first understand how their current systems are being used before committing to major infrastructure changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBusinesses do not always need to replace their entire storage and memory solutions when requirements begin to change,\u201d said Antoine Harb, team leader for the Middle East at Kingston Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harb said organizations should identify the workloads having the greatest effect on performance and direct investment toward the systems where an upgrade will produce the most value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may involve expanding memory in servers running virtual machines, replacing drives supporting write-heavy databases or improving storage in systems where downtime would disrupt business operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to solve the actual bottleneck rather than buying newer hardware across the entire organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Client SSDs Are Not Designed For Every Workload<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston said client solid-state drives remain suitable for routine work performed on desktop and laptop computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These drives are typically built for activities such as opening documents, browsing the web, running office applications and handling other workloads where storage activity is intermittent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enterprise SSDs are designed for more demanding environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may be better suited to servers, databases, virtualization platforms and business-critical applications that operate continuously or process large volumes of write activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is not simply speed. Enterprise drives are generally evaluated for endurance, sustained performance, reliability and their ability to operate consistently under heavier workloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using a client drive in a system that performs frequent writes may lead to faster wear or less predictable performance, even when its advertised capacity and maximum speed appear sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Performance Problems Can Reveal Storage Limits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston advised IT teams to review data growth, application performance, write activity, storage utilization and the number of users accessing shared systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recurring capacity shortages are one obvious sign that an upgrade may be necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other warning signs may be less direct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications that respond inconsistently, systems that require increasing maintenance and drives that need to be replaced frequently can indicate that existing storage is no longer suited to the workload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy shared access can also create pressure when several users or applications attempt to read and write data at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recognizing these patterns can help businesses determine whether the problem is caused by insufficient capacity, limited endurance, inadequate memory or another part of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kingston Recommends A Phased Upgrade Strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than replacing all storage and memory at once, Kingston recommends starting with systems where performance, uptime and data availability are most important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An organization could upgrade a critical database or heavily used virtualization server first, then monitor whether the new equipment delivers the expected improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results can help the IT team decide whether the same approach should be expanded to other systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A phased deployment may also reduce disruption and make it easier to identify compatibility or configuration problems before new hardware is introduced across the wider organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Storage Decisions Go Beyond Speed And Capacity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston said organizations should consider endurance, compatibility, product lifecycle, technical support and total cost of ownership when choosing memory and storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lower-cost drive may appear attractive initially but could become more expensive if it requires frequent replacement, creates downtime or cannot maintain stable performance under sustained activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compatibility also matters because storage must work reliably with the organization\u2019s servers, operating systems, controllers and existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEnterprise storage planning starts with the workload, not the specification sheet,\u201d Harb said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two businesses may store similar amounts of data but have completely different requirements depending on how frequently that data is accessed, how quickly applications need to respond and what happens when a system becomes unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MENA Technology Spending Continues To Grow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingston\u2019s guidance comes as businesses and governments across the Middle East continue investing in AI, cloud systems and modern data infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gartner forecasts total IT spending in the Middle East and North Africa will reach $169 billion in 2026, an increase of 8.9% from 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data center systems are expected to be the region\u2019s fastest-growing IT segment, with spending projected to increase 37.3% to nearly $13 billion during the year.
