Verizon customers across parts of the United States reported mobile service problems on Saturday, August 8, after Downdetector showed a spike in outage reports linked to the wireless carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issue appeared to affect voice service for some Verizon wireless customers, with users saying they had trouble making or receiving calls. Some reports also mentioned calls connecting to silence, outgoing calls not ringing, and voicemail access problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outage drew attention online as customers checked Downdetector and social media for updates. According to reports, service complaints rose during the afternoon, with a Downdetector map showing affected users in major cities including Chicago, Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Verizon later said engineers had resolved the issue and advised customers who were still having trouble to restart their devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know how much you rely on us, and we\u2019re sorry for the inconvenience,\u201d Verizon said in a public update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports of a Verizon voice outage began appearing shortly before 3 p.m. ET on Saturday and appeared to peak around 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS News Chicago reported that more than 13,000 users had said they were experiencing issues on Downdetector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some customers in Sarasota, Florida, also reported call-related problems. Local reports said incoming calls connected to silence for some users, while others said outgoing calls would not ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, outage reports also appeared for other major wireless providers. However, T-Mobile said on X that its network was operating normally and that customers may have been affected when trying to reach people on another wireless provider\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That detail matters because a problem at one major carrier can sometimes make it look like several networks are down. If a T-Mobile or AT&T user is trying to call a Verizon customer during a Verizon voice issue, the failed call can still feel like a problem on both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Verizon said the issue had been resolved later Saturday. Customers who still had problems were told to restart their phones to reconnect to the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of this writing, Verizon has not released a detailed explanation of what caused the service disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company also has not publicly said whether affected customers will receive credits or compensation for the outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mobile outages tend to spread quickly on social media because users immediately lose access to calls, texts, mobile data, or voicemail. Even a short disruption can affect work, travel, emergency communication, and family check-ins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saturday\u2019s Verizon outage also came after previous major wireless disruptions in the U.S., making customers more sensitive to sudden service problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For now, the confirmed update is that Verizon says the voice service issue has been fixed. Customers who are still seeing call failures, \u201cSOS,\u201d no signal, or voicemail problems should restart their phones and check Verizon\u2019s official network status page for local updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
