Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup may not follow the company’s usual launch pattern.
New rumors point to a split release schedule, higher-end models arriving first, and a possible foldable iPhone leading the next wave of devices.
According to Mashable’s latest iPhone 18 rumor roundup, Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a rumored foldable iPhone Ultra in fall 2026. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and next-generation iPhone Air are rumored to arrive later, possibly in early 2027.
iPhone 18 Lineup May Arrive in Two Waves
The biggest change could be Apple’s release schedule.
Instead of launching the full iPhone 18 family at the same time, Apple is reportedly prioritizing its premium models first. Mashable reported that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected in fall 2026, while the regular iPhone 18 may not arrive until early 2027.
That claim is supported by a Reuters report from January, which cited Nikkei Asia’s reporting that Apple planned to prioritize three high-end iPhone models in 2026 while delaying the standard model to the first half of 2027.
Reuters noted that it could not independently verify Nikkei’s report, and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Foldable iPhone Could Be the Headline Device
Apple’s first foldable iPhone may be the biggest story in the iPhone 18 cycle.
Reports have referred to the device as the iPhone Ultra or foldable iPhone. Mashable said the foldable model is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in fall 2026.
Reuters also reported, citing Nikkei Asia, that Apple was focusing on its first foldable iPhone and two other non-folding premium models for a flagship launch in the second half of 2026.

iPhone 18 Pro Models May Get Camera and Display Changes
The Pro models are expected to carry most of the early upgrades.
Mashable’s roundup says the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may feature camera improvements, including a possible variable aperture for the main camera. The models are also rumored to get bigger batteries, a smaller Dynamic Island, and brighter displays.
