Pokémon GO players were hit by a widespread outage after many users reported seeing “Network Error 2” while trying to launch or log in to the game.
The issue drew thousands of complaints on Friday evening in the United States, with outage tracker Downdetector showing a sharp rise in reports tied to game launch, login, and server connection problems.
The outage appeared to grow quickly.
Mint reported that Downdetector showed more than 20,000 user reports around 3:27 p.m. PT, rising to more than 53,000 by 4:13 p.m. PT.
Hindustan Times also reported that many players were seeing “Network Error 2,” a connection-related issue that can prevent users from opening the app, logging in, or staying connected to Pokémon GO servers.
Most reported problems were tied to launching the game.
Downdetector’s Pokémon GO status page later showed no current problems, but its 24-hour breakdown still listed game launch, login, and server connection as the main issues reported by users.
Scopely Explore Support acknowledged the problem on X, saying it was investigating an issue affecting Pokémon GO gameplay. A later update said the issue had been resolved and apologized for the inconvenience.
The outage sparked immediate reactions from players on X, Reddit, and Facebook, with some users asking whether the problem was tied to their device or account before reports showed the issue was more widespread.
For players still seeing the error, the safest step is to restart the game and check the official Pokémon GO or Scopely Explore Support accounts for updates before reinstalling the app or changing account settings.
As of this writing, Downdetector’s live Pokémon GO page says user reports show no current problems with the game.
